PYL Code of COnduct
Our mission is to enable children who enroll in PYL Lacrosse Program to have a positive playing experience. Toward that end, PYL Lacrosse utilizes the following conduct standards for coaches, players, and parents. This Code of Conduct is a condition of participation, and all such participants agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and are subject to consequences of violating the Code. By enrolling in the PYL Program or acting as a coach, player, or parent all are bound by this Code of Conduct, and its validity is hereby a matter of record and is not dependent upon a physical signature.
All enforcement decisions made by officials of PYL Lacrosse are final and are not subject to review. No refunds will be granted to those players dismissed from PYL for violation of the Code of Conduct by themselves or their parents.
Coaches and Participating Parents
The top priority is to teach basic lacrosse skills in a fun and safe manner, not a team’s win/loss record. Coaches are to teach and encourage players through positive reinforcement and are to always demonstrate positive respective behaviors when interacting with players, parents, other coaches, referees, and spectators. Teaching should be emphasized in practice, with games serving as an opportunity for players to play and learn from their mistakes. Coaches should avoid over instructing players during games. Negative comments by coaches from the sidelines to players on the field during games will not be tolerated. Referees are to be respected and supported. Coaches are expected to educate their players as to the important role lacrosse officials have in facilitating the game. Coaches should encourage players to play at different positions as much as possible.
Non-Coaching Parents and Spectators (P&Ss)
This group of folks can have a profound effect on the experience of the players. They possess the opportunity to teach and practice good sportsmanship at all games and practices. P&Ss are expected to know the rules of the game of lacrosse and respect them. They are also expected to respect the officials and coaches. P&Ss are expected to let the coaches coach and to provide positive encouragement to both the players and coaches. Coaching is not permitted outside of the coaches’ box. Criticizing referees or players regardless of the circumstances is not permitted. Any concerns about how the league is run, coaches are coaching, or referees are officiating should be referred to the Head Coach first. A 24-hour rule shall be followed in that if you have a complaint resulting from a game (or practice) situation, speak with the coach the following day. If there is a serious problem notify either the Head of the League or the President of PYL. Emphasize the FUN of the game and the team, always putting forth effort and not the wins or the losses.
Players
Players are expected to respect their teammates, coaches, referees, and opponents always.
They shall be on-time and fully equipped at all practices and games. Players should always give 100% of their effort in both practice and games. They should know the rules of the game and respect them. A player should not be afraid to make mistakes, it is part of learning the game. Obscene language or gestures will not be tolerated. Support and encouragement of teammates and coaches is always expected.
ALL
All conduct, including abusive language and/or gestures, racially insensitive remarks, damage to property or belongings, or other conduct that reflects poorly on PYL is deemed unacceptable. Any destruction of property or consumption of drugs or alcohol, or any other illegal activity will not be tolerated. The Board of Directors of PYL will deal with unacceptable conduct at its sole discretion, imposing warning, suspensions, or expulsion as it deems appropriate.
ANY SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION BASED ON VOLATIONS OF THE CODE OF CONDUT WILL NOT BE ACCOMPANIED BY A RESISTRATION REFUND.
Concussion Management Plan & Resources
Pelham Youth Lacrosse follows the Concussion Act of New York State as the concussion policy, which is the requirement for our schools.
The Concussion Act of NYS took effect July 1, 2012, and requires schools to:
- Educate parents, athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, physical education teachers, and school nurses on concussion,
- Remove observed or suspected concussed students from play based on signs and symptoms,
- Withhold further participation until evaluated by, and received written and signed authorization to return to activities from a licensed physician.
- Obtain physician clearance, and when the athlete has been symptom-free off pain killing medicines for a minimum of 24 hours and allow them to begin a monitored progressive six phase return to play
